German Director Fritz Lang made this 1945 film noir and black comedy. The plot revolved around a man in mid-life crisis who befriends a young woman. Shadows are used in it heavily and the characters in it are shady. Starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, and Dan Duryea.
