A 1921 Swedish romantic horror film about a drunken man who is forced to look back at his wasted life. The film is notable for its special effects, its advanced (for the time) narrative structure with flashbacks within flashbacks, and for having been a major influence on Ingmar Bergman. Based on an old Swedish folk tale where the last man to die just before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve is doomed to drive the Phantom Carriage for the following year collecting all of the spirits of the dead.
